AI Takeover: Phuket Prepares Officials for Smart City Transformation

Phuket has launched a new initiative to advance its smart city ambitions, offering a training program aimed at equipping government officials with the knowledge to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in daily administrative tasks.

The program, called Enhancing Knowledge on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Government Administration, took place yesterday, August 26, at Phuket Vocational College, with Governor Sophon Suwannarat presiding. The session was attended by heads of government agencies, district chiefs, and local leaders.

Narong On-in from the Phuket Provincial Office emphasized the importance of adapting to technological advancements.

“Government officials must acquire the knowledge and skills to effectively apply AI in their work. This will boost efficiency, streamline operations, and better position us for the digital era,” he stated.

Governor Sophon connected the training to Phuket’s broader digital strategy.

“Phuket province understands the critical role of smart city development within the public sector. This program provides leaders and officials with the skills to leverage AI, streamline workflows, and deliver faster, more efficient public services,” he said.

The session also included a keynote speech by Chalermpol Punnotok, CEO of CT Asia Robotics Co Ltd, who is renowned as the creator of Dinso, Thailand and ASEAN’s first service robot, according to The Phuket News.

Chalermpol discussed how AI and robotics have the potential to revolutionize public service delivery and automation.

This AI training is the latest in a series of efforts to establish Phuket as a regional frontrunner in digital governance. It forms part of a wider national initiative to modernize Thailand’s public sector while promoting tourism, infrastructure, and innovation.
